Farm Experience
TOUR

A Day on Brichwood Farm with Farmer John & Kristin

3–4 Hours | A Genuine New Zealand Farm Experience

Step beyond the farm gate and discover the real New Zealand.

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the beautiful Hundalees, Brichwood Farm is a working family farm where visitors are welcomed like friends. This is more than just a farm tour—it's an opportunity to spend time with Farmer John, hear his stories, meet the animals, and experience rural life through the eyes of someone who lives it every day.

With just your private group, the experience is relaxed and completely tailored to your interests. Whether you're fascinated by farming, love animals, enjoy conservation, or simply want to experience authentic Kiwi hospitality, your visit can be shaped around what interests you most.

Meet the Animals

Spend time with the friendly farm animals and discover how each plays an important role on the farm.

You may:

  • Meet sheep, cattle and working farm dogs

  • Watch the sheepdogs expertly bring the flock in

  • Learn how farmers communicate with their dogs—and even have a go using a sheep whistle yourself

  • Watch a live sheep shearing demonstration (season permitting)

Life on a New Zealand Farm

John loves sharing the stories behind farming life.

Learn about:

  • How sheep and beef farming works in New Zealand

  • The changing farming seasons

  • Why different farming practices are used

  • Where New Zealand wool and meat travel around the world

  • How farming is evolving to become more sustainable for future generations

Every visit is different, depending on the season and what's happening on the farm that day.

Get Involved

If you'd like to roll up your sleeves, there are plenty of opportunities to become part of farm life.

Depending on the season, you may:

  • Help draft sheep

  • Try your hand at sheep shearing (if you're feeling brave!)

  • Plant a native tree

  • Help set conservation traps for rats, stoats and ferrets

  • Take a scenic walk across the farm and through native bush

These genuine hands-on experiences are what make every visit unique.

Relax at Our Family Home

After your farm adventure, enjoy traditional Kiwi hospitality in our home overlooking the surrounding hills.

Included is a simple morning or afternoon tea featuring:

  • Tea or freshly brewed coffee

  • Homemade cheese scone, biscuit or a slice of cake

Many guests are also surprised to discover our extensive collection of original New Zealand paintings and sculptures. If you enjoy art, we're always delighted to share the stories behind the collection.

More Than a Farm Tour

Brichwood Farm isn't a scripted attraction.

It's a chance to spend time with a real farming family, hear honest conversations, ask questions, and experience a way of life that most visitors to New Zealand never see.

Whether you're watching highly trained sheepdogs at work, standing amongst hundreds of sheep, walking through protected native bush, or sharing stories over a cup of tea, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of rural New Zealand and memories that last long after your holiday.
